Happy New Year! It’s odd to me that it’s 2017 already. I feel like 2010 was yesterday, and it’s just another reminder that I’m getting old. But not as old as my husband. Who will be 30 in exactly a month!

(I’m also going to start linking some of the baby products we are using since I’ve been getting some questions about them!)

I told my husband that 2017 won’t be as exciting as 2016. In 2016 we got married, bought a house, and had a baby. He told me that I was wrong. 2017 will be just as exciting because we get to see our son grow up and have a lot of firsts. (Including his 1st birthday which I may or may not already be planning…) So I admit that he’s right. 2017 will be just as exciting and I can’t wait to see what’s in store.

(Happy New Year from me and my lil bear!)

I’ve never been one to make resolutions. I have been reflecting back on the past year and mistakes I’ve made. Most of them have to do with being a mom, and what I would do better the second time around. So my “resolutions” are more about what I would do differently with our second child. (Who is not in the plans yet…maybe in 2018.)

  • Sleeping: My number 1 thing I would change. I would try to sleep train starting at 2-3 months old. My next child will sleep through the night before he/she is 4 months old! (Fingers crossed.)
  • Feeding: Braxton still will not take a bottle. Next time I’m not sure I’ll breastfeed again for as long. But either way, I’m going to make sure my next child has a bottle every day. Braxton took a bottle and nursed from birth to about 2 months old. Then I stopped for awhile and just nursed. When I tried to go back to a bottle he wouldn’t take it anymore. So next child, no breaks from the bottle.
  • Tummy Time: This might just be mom guilt. But I feel like I didn’t try hard enough to work on tummy time. Braxton still hates it and I know I could have pushed for him to do more. So next child will start doing it much sooner and do it more often.
  • Exercise: This isn’t for my child, but for me. I didn’t work out as much as I should have when I was pregnant. I was worried about it hurting the baby. Now I know it’s completely safe and I want to make sure I stay as active as possible for the next pregnancy.

(My cub is getting so big!)

Our new year is already off to a great start. We have done so much reorganizing of our house, and baby proofing to make it safer for Brax. This includes putting up a baby gate in his playroom to block off the “office” part where I work. Also making sure every outlet is covered, and securing all the big furniture to the walls. Even though Brax isn’t crawling or walking yet, he can still get around. He butt scoots over to stuff and is already trying to pull up on things. We also were gifted brand new kitchen appliances. I especially love our new refrigerator that now has an ice maker and water dispenser in the door. We go through so many water bottles, that this will save so much money!

So here’s what I’m looking forward to in 2017!

  • Our first wedding anniversary in January!
  • Blair’s 30th Birthday in February! Can’t wait to celebrate with you and all our friends!
  • Lots of family birthday’s in March.
  • Braxton’s 1st Birthday in April! Definitely planning on doing it big. Be ready for an all Disney theme!
  • May-August will be Braxton’s 2nd summer, BUT it will be his first summer where he will be walking and taking swimming lessons! Will be a much more fun outdoor summer for us. So excited to get a tan again!
  • October will be Braxton’s second Halloween but again, it’s his first one where he will be walking door to door Trick-or-Treating!
  • November will probably be our first Thanksgiving not in Texas. Probably will be going to Tennessee.
  • December…the month I will probably be looking forward to all year. Because, if everything goes as planned, we will be having Christmas at Disney World!

(He gets so excited to see Daddy home from work.)

So Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone has another great year, and that it brings everyone another great adventure.

By the way, I’ve seen lots of people asking for book recommendations on Facebook lately. You guys…I have your answer. The Soul Mender Trilogy! I’m not saying this just because my best friend wrote the books. It’s because the books are amazing! I finished reading the first book, The Soul Mender back in October, and was so excited for the second book to come out! It finally came out about a week ago, The Peace Keeper, and even though I’m only halfway through, I’m hooked! Make sure to check them out! I linked both books below to make it easy for you to buy.
