He is Risen! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter with their family! We had a great weekend and I loved getting to spend this Holiday with our little one! I know that it’s more than eggs and bunnies and that Christ is the reason for this special day. But I did miss the days that I would wake up and run downstairs to see my Easter Basket and then waiting with my sister for my parents to hide the eggs. Then racing her to see who could find more. It wasn’t about the candy or toys, but it was about tradition and doing fun activities with my family. I love that now I can do all that again, and although it’s totally different being on the other side of the egg hunts, it’s almost better.
The celebration kicked off actually early that week on Wednesday with an Egg Hunt with a local Mom’s group. This was my first event with them and it was so fun. I can’t wait to do more with this mom’s group! It was nice knowing some people there already and also meeting some new moms. Brax got to hang out with his buddy and he loved watching the other kids as well. It reminded me that I need to let him socialize more since he is definitely his daddy’s boy and not shy like his momma.
(He did so good on his first hunt!)
(I know I posted this in the last blog post, but it’s so cute! These boys are so adorable!)
We got to have a relaxing Good Friday with just the three of us. Saturday we got to see our Cousin and his beautiful wife for lunch on their way back to Dallas. We had then planned to go to an Egg Hunt at my mom’s church late that afternoon, but our poor little guy got car sick so we decided to go home and let him rest while we got some home projects done.
(So glad we got to see these guys while they were in town from Dallas!)
(So it was driving me crazy that Braxton would take all the books off the bookshelf and then tear the pages out of the books. So our weekend project was to create these chalkboards that would be fun for him to write on, but also stop momma from going crazy. We just bought a big plywood from Lowes and had them cut it into two pieces that we measured ahead of time. The plywood itself only cost about $8, and they cut it for free. We bought chalkboard paint and I painted the boards. Then we used velcro strips to attach the boards so that I could move them when I needed to get a book. I’ve seen other people do this to fireplaces to childproof them and it’s working great to childproof our bookshelf! PS the bookshelves are bolted to the wall so they can’t fall on him.)
Easter Sunday was also Braxton’s last 1st Holiday. Since he turns 1 in a few days, it means that all his 1st Holidays are over. It’s bittersweet, just as its bittersweet to see him grow. Anyways, it was today of all days that he decided he wanted to sleep in until 9:00am! Of course it’s always the day we have big plans that he throws them off. So usually his 1st nap is at 9:00, but since he slept in, that nap didn’t happen. We had plans to meet our parents for lunch at 11:30, and then our neighborhood Egg Hunt at 1:30. By the time we met our parents, Brax was tired and ready for a nap. So he was pretty fussy at the restaurant and I was worried that he’d either sleep through the Egg Hunt, or he’s just be fussy and angry through it all. He took a power nap in the car on the way back from lunch and we went straight to the Egg Hunt. Or so we thought. Funny enough, the location listed for the egg hunt was at a park that was at the crossroads of two main roads in our neighborhood. What we didn’t know was that these streets actually cross at two different points, and that there is a park at both of them. So of course we went to the wrong one. After my husband did some driving around, he figured out our mistake and we made it to the right now. Unfortunately, we had missed it, but lucky for us they were super nice and hid some extra eggs for us. (We actually weren’t the only ones to make this mistake, there were about 5-10 other people at the wrong park with us so that did make me feel better that I wasn’t the only one.) We got some great pictures with our little guy and with the extended family that was there to celebrate along with us!
So it ended up being a great adventure, and while I’m sad his year of firsts have come to a close, I’m super excited to celebrate his 1st birthday this weekend! We have a big Mickey Mouse themed party planned for him and I’m so happy and blessed that so many of our friends and family are coming to celebrate with us. I can’t wait!
