Tomorrow my baby will be 5 months old! Which also means I am 5 months postpartum so it’s time for an update on my fitness progress as well as post my current workouts.

I can honestly say I am super happy with my progress. At 117 pounds, I’m two pounds away from my pre-baby weight, (which I didn’t think would be possible since I am still nursing), and am getting some leg and ab definition back! My stomach no longer feels “soft” and my energy level is making it easier to work out. (Although I do miss taking my pre-workout drink! I used to take C4, but it’s not safe while breastfeeding.) Last month I focused on my stomach and legs. This month I’ll be focusing on my arms and butt. It’s always important to have a goal in mind!

It feels great to be able to physically see a transformation, but it’s frustrating when you look at social media and see people hate on moms and say that pregnancy and postpartum isn’t a true weight loss transformation. Gaining a lot of weight in only 9 months and having your stomach stretch out that much is hard on your body, no matter the wonderful reason why. And then the pressure to lose the weight in a short amount of time makes any amount of weight loss a definite transformation. (Not to mention that it’s not only your stomach that gains the weight, it’s your legs, arms, face, etc.)

Here’s my workout of the day:

  • 50 Jumping Jacks
  • 50 High Knees
  • 50 Mountain Climbers
  • 20 Squats
  • 10 Burpees
  • 25 Sit-Ups
  • 45 Second Plank
  • 20 Lunges
  • 15 Tricep Dips
  • 25 Crunches
  • 25 Bicycle Crunches
  • 25 Mason Twists

They always say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Since caffeine is out for me (I don’t like the idea of passing it along to the baby through breastmilk), I need something else for a pick-me-up in the morning. Plus I needed something that would be easy to make, and easy to eat one handed. So here’s my usual morning breakfast:

Fruit Smoothie:

  • 100% Cranberry Juice
  • Frozen Fruit (I usually freeze fruit when it’s starting to go bad.)

I like using frozen fruit rather then ice so that it’s less watered down. The fruit provides a natural pick me up, and it’s super quick to blend and drink while playing with my little guy.

More favorite go-to snacks:

  • Half an avocado with salt
  • Carrots with Hummus
  • Popcorn
  • Cucumbers
  • Granola Bars
  • Turkey Jerky
  • Veggie Straws

With any type of working out/dieting it’s all about balance. I don’t starve myself, and I don’t deprive myself. I still enjoy pizza and cake! But it’s about moderation. We have pizza night every Friday night, but instead of eating 4 slices like I did when I was pregnant, I only eat two. And I still enjoy sweets, but instead of eating the whole bag in one sitting, I eat a few pieces at a time. Depriving yourself of enjoying food will only make yourself miserable and more likely to give up.

Now to find time to also work on my tan to complete my transformation and get even closer to that pre-baby bod!

Tomorrow I’ll post Braxton’s 5 month picture on my Instagram, but here’s his update!

Braxton at 5 months old:

  • Had his first “hair cut” (Daddy cut his dark baby hair. He needed it! He was getting a mullet…)
  • Has blond hair growing in! (Finally! It’s like white blond and really fine right now. Sticks straight up and looks just like his daddy’s hair looked.)
  • Has blue eyes. (We thought his eyes would change color, but I they’re going to stay blue! They are beautiful!)
  • Grabs everything in sight. (Loves grabbing daddy’s glasses off his head.)
  • Not sure of height and weight exactly, but guessing around 18 pounds.
  • Wearing 6-9 month clothing.
  • Holds head up with no problem!
  • Tries to sit up on his own.
  • Loves grabbing his toes!
  • Loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! (He will stop everything he’s doing when he hears it come on.)
  • Laughs all the time. Starting to squeal now!
  • Tries to stand up on his own. (Doesn’t like being on his back, he wants to sit up or stand up.)
  • Went on his first plane ride. (See previous post!)
  • Starting to teeth. (And biting everything, including our fingers.)
  • Won’t take a bottle…or a pacifier.
  • Starting to cling to mom and dad.
  • Had his first “solid” food. (Carrots!)

Love seeing both of our transformations. He is growing up so fast. I love seeing him do and learn new things, but it’s bittersweet because it reminds me that he won’t be my baby forever and he is getting so big! Can’t wait to see what next month will bring. Especially since Holiday Season is coming up!
