So I wrote in the last post about Brax being sick. It’s really his first time ever being sick so it’s been a learning experience.

The biggest experience was being THAT mom in Target.

I went in with him feeling fine. No symptoms and no sign that anything was going to happen. We even managed to get everything on my list and were on the last item when suddenly he got very fussy. I tried giving him puffs which usually always calm him down. This time he kept pushing them away and crying louder. So I figured that meant he was bored of sitting in the cart. Since I was deciding on which thing to get, I picked him up to give me a little more time to decide. As soon as I picked him up he started vomiting. It was just a little bit and luckily didn’t get on me or him, just on the floor. So I bent down with him and patted his back to see if he still felt sick. He did. He then started projectile vomiting like Exorcist style. I had no idea what to do next. Luckily I had picked up napkins so I opened the package and with one hand cleaned up the mess while the other hand was still holding Brax and checking to see if he was done yet. He seemed to be done so I finished cleaning him and the floor up. So then what do I do? I had a ton of dirty napkins on the floor. No trashcan nearby. No workers nearby. A full cart, and I was still holding a sick baby who now seemed tired and was resting his head on my shoulder. But seriously, what do you do? Do I try to find someone to let them know they might want to mop? Do I just go check out and leave? Do I just leave the cart there and go home? I was so confused, embarrassed and really wished I had a shopping adult with me. So since Brax seemed to be done, and it seemed irresponsible to leave a mess of napkins on the floor I decided to find a worker to tell them. I walked around with a fussy baby for what seemed like forever and didn’t see a single worker. So then I decided to just go check out and I would let the check out person know. There of course was a huge line but Brax seemed to be falling asleep so we waited. We were next in line when it happened again. This time on me, on him, on the floor, and in front of an audience. Throw up everywhere. So there I am, trying to again hold a vomiting kid while trying to grab more napkins and clean up while comforting him. The audience included a few moms and a few elderly people. No one in this audience offered to help, or even acknowledged what was going on. So finally I got it cleaned up and it was my turn to check out. This was the first worker I had seen in the whole store by the way. So I told him what aisle the mess was in, including the front of his register. Braxton was wailing by this point. I was hoping he’d quickly check me out so I could sprint out of there and get my sick baby home. But instead he decided he would go look for someone to clean up the messes. Really? So I had to wait there with a sick and screaming baby. I didn’t feel bad about the messes anymore. When he finally decided to check out my items, we sprinted out of there and baby fell asleep within seconds of being in the car. And no more throw up for the rest of the day, week or since then.

I can laugh about it now that Braxton is better. But I also haven’t dared to take him out shopping by myself since then either.

I hope you all got some enjoyment from my embarrassment, and if you know what you’re actually supposed to do in that situation let me know. Because I still don’t know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(He’s lucky he’s cute! 10 month update will be posted tomorrow!)
